The Opportunity

Join an innovative team that is accelerating public cloud adoption at RBC! We are looking for a passionate and creative Operations Engineer who is excited about problem solving and working with the latest technologies.

You’ll be joining a team that is passionate about what we’re doing.  As a member of the team, you will be working with SREs, Platform Engineers, Architects, and Security Professionals, through your contributions and by participating in the support on-call rotation.

What will you do?

  • Work as part of the team managing our public cloud environments (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform), including setup, management, and troubleshooting
  • Build and own scalable services using best practices around automation, pushing changes that improve reliability and velocity
  • Manage & support operational tooling for monitoring and observability
  • Manage & support our centralized logging platform
  • Provide mentorship and training to other team members on technologies and processes; drive education and knowledge transfer of design patterns, technical practices, and relevant technologies and tools
  • Keep customers informed by providing budget and cost usage via dashboards, reports, and alerts, while providing information and recommendations on cost optimization opportunities
  • Work flexible hours when necessary and be part of an 24/7 on-call rotation

Must Have’s:

  • Intermediate experience managing physical infrastructure and/or a minimum of two cloud platforms: Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
  • A passion for making developers more efficient through DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code
  • Experience with Infrastructure Automation and Infrastructure as Code
  • Experience with container platforms.  Ideally Kubernetes and/or Docker
  • A strong system management background in PaaS/SaaS environment practices, including: maintaining SLAs, load-balancing, high availability, operating system patching, networking, and security management/patching
  • Experience with the operational aspects of systems such as monitoring, centralized logging, and alerting with relevant tools (Ex. Dynatrace, Splunk, New Relic, ELK, Sumo Logic)
  • Experience working with orchestration and configuration management systems such as Ansible or Puppet, and infrastructure-as-code systems such as CloudFormation or Terraform
  • Experience working with one or more of: Python, Bash, GO, and have experience integrating with third party APIs

Nice-to-have

  • Experience developing software
  • Experience creating and manipulating YAML files
  • Experience working in a SAFe, Kanban, or Scrum development methodology
