Job Description

Synopsis

Manage Etihad Aviation Group’s export control, sanctions compliance and anti-bribery programmes. Implement and run the Group third-party risk management activities in relation to these two areas and anti-bribery. Provide independent advice and guidance to senior management and staff on these and related areas.

Accountabilities

  • Provide advice and guidance to management and staff on all issues related to export control and sanctions. Maintain comprehensive internal procedures covering activities performed by the department. Manage related budget and departmental contracts. 
  • Establish and manage Etihad group’s third-party risk management compliance programmes for export control, sanctions and anti-bribery. 
  • Develop and maintain all policies and procedures for the export control and sanctions compliance programmes and related due diligence activities.  
  • Develop and maintain all policies and procedures for the anti-bribery due diligence programme. Oversee departmental efforts to develop their own related local policies and procedures ensuring that they are consistent with those at the group level. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in senior management while helping them to understand and manage their compliance risks. 
  • Ensure that Etihad maintains appropriate contractual safeguards against export control, sanctions and bribery risks. 
  • Maintain dotted line oversight responsibility for the activities of operational teams who are responsible for implementing export controls at the divisional level (such as Engineering, Cargo and Etihad Aviation Training). Provide advice and guidance to operational management on how to maintain compliance and provide an independent escalation point for complex or contentious issues. 
  • Develop export control, sanctions and anti-bribery compliance training strategy for Etihad group. Plan, develop and implement training for all staff and management. Implement a comprehensive communications and awareness strategy to build deep awareness about the importance of these compliance programmes and of Etihad’s responsibility to carry out due diligence on its business partners and customers, and how to do it. 
  • Monitor developments in global export control, sanctions and anti-bribery laws, identify risks, and work with business unit leaders and the risk management function to devise suitable mitigation strategies. 
  • Develop and implement a robust audit / compliance testing strategy to provide appropriate levels of assurance to executive management. Provide technical training and support to Internal Audit to support their audit assurance efforts to the group. 
  • Develop and maintain a framework and KPIs to monitor performance and provide regular reporting at the divisional and group levels. Proactively monitor trends and implement initiatives within the Ethics & Compliance Office to improve performance and support management to do the same within their areas of responsibility.  

Education & Experience

  •  At least eight years business experience – four of which must be in a similar compliance role with strong focus on export controls and sanctions compliance. Expert knowledge of the US Export Administration Regulations, UAE, UN and US Sanctions, International and UAE bribery laws and other similar legislation. 
  • University degree. Preferably in Law (but other fields will be considered depending on experience) 
  • Relevant Compliance and Ethics certification such as CEPP, CGSS, CFE or similar. 
  • Excellent communication skills, good attention to detail, strong influencing and implementation skills, self-motivated, and able to manage own workload effectively.  
  • Line management skills and experience.
