Job Description

What you're going to do

Operates cash registers and related hardware to process member purchases, following appropriate procedures for various payment forms and items sold.

Stocks and rotates products and supplies received from distribution centers and suppliers in the pharmacy, removing damaged or out-of-date goods, putting up, cleaning, and organizing product displays, signing and pricing merchandise, and safeguarding delicate and high-shrink inventory.

Maintains the Pharmacy area in accordance with company policies and procedures by properly handling claims and returns; using equipment to perform a variety of merchandising functions (for example, pricing merchandise, creating signs, and verifying merchandise on-hands); arranging and organizing merchandise and supplies; identifying shrink and damages; ensuring a safe work environment; and completing and retaining required paperwork, logs, and other documentation.

Processes information for third-party insurance claims; rescans illegible images; alerts patients to out-of-stock inventory, partial fills, and the need for physician authorizations on refills; and identifies situations requiring pharmacist action.

By assisting the pharmacist in the prescription fulfillment process; processing third party insurance claims and/or rejections; assisting patients/members with prescription orders and purchases; and completing, maintaining, and securing paperwork, forms, and e-mails, promotes and maintains the Pharmacy's professional reputation and provides pharmacy products and services in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and corporate policies and procedures.

Acknowledges and identifies member needs; initiates the prescription fulfillment process at the pharmacy drop-off window; creates prescription orders; promotes products and services; resolves member issues and concerns; assists with purchase decisions; locates over-the-counter merchandise; and maintains a safe shopping environment in the Pharmacy area.

By reading prescriptions, translating prescription information into corresponding system codes, transcribing appropriate prescription data (for example, written date, drug name, strength, directions for use (sig), refills, name of prescribing physician, and prescriber DEA number), and creating or modifying patient/member records, this position enters prescription data into pharmacy software.

To ensure prescription accuracy, fills prescriptions by retrieving prescription orders, counting, pouring, measuring, or weighing medication tablets, liquids, and creams as needed, mixing or reconstituting medications as needed, selecting, filling, and labeling prescription containers, and operating scanning equipment and/or automated dispensing systems.

Provides member assistance during prescription pick-up by verifying and entering patient information into the TaSCO system in accordance with corporate policies and procedures; marking appropriate prescriptions for pick-up; retrieving prescription bag from will call bin; scanning security tags; gathering electronic signatures for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) acknowledgement and third party payor, if applicable; and using TaSCO to log the sal. Using policies, data, and resources, completes work assignments and priorities; collaborating with managers, coworkers, customers, and other business partners; identifying priorities, deadlines, and expectations; carrying out tasks; communicating progress and information; determining and recommending ways to address improvement opportunities; and adapting to and learning from change, difficulties, and feedback. By implementing related action plans, using the Open Door Policy, and applying these in the execution of business processes and practices, complies with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity.

Minimum Criteria:

Meets all state requirements for working as a Pharmacy Technician, including minimum age, qualification, registration, certification, and/or license, as required by the State Board of Pharmacy. Within 9 months of starting the job, you must receive PTCB (PTCE) or NHA (ExCPT) National Pharmacy Technician Certification.
