Job Description

Ensures timely project completion and a high level of continuous improvement achievement. Must interact with internal and external customers as required to meet customers’ needs, interpret the results and convey the findings to management. Accountable for the overall quality and recovery components of manufacturing, which is accomplished by auditing equipment performances in the proper methods of processing. A Process Engineer is accountable to perform or facilitate testing on new or existing equipment and processes.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Leads or supports project activities in the following areas:

• Investigates and approves alternate, new or improved production processes for existing products.

• Leads and supports continuous improvement efforts utilizing new technologies that provide the company with distinct competitive advantages.

• Leads and supports quality improvement efforts through improved raw material performance, new process technology or improved operational practices.

• Supports continuous improvements efforts offered through the MCE (McCain Competitive Edge) process. Leads efforts to improve efficiency of current products and processes applying lean manufacturing principles.

• Applies statistical methods and performs mathematical calculations to determine best manufacturing processes, staff requirements and production standards.

• Coordinates quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability and minimize cost.

• Confers with vendors, staff and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities and project status.

• Reviews production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures and activities.

• Studies operations sequence, material flow, functional statements, organization charts, and project information to determine worker functions and safety.

• Champion and provide best practices into supplier involvement and integration of manufacturing into product development to achieve low cost manufacture.

• Training of plant management on standard processing philosophies and techniques.

• Directs workers engaged in product measurement, inspection and testing activities to ensure quality control, reliability and safety.

• Analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establishes quality and reliability objectives of finished product.

• Recommends methods for improving utilization of personnel, material and utilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

• The ability to quickly grasp technical and abstract concepts.


• Training is an integral part of this position. The candidate must have a background or proven experience in training.


• Computer literacy is a must due to the nature of equipment operation and reporting.

  • Knowledge and skill with MS Excel is required.
  • Knowledge and skills in database use is required.

 

  • The ability to create written and oral reports with the use of data, statistical analysis, technical and abstract concepts is required.

 

  • The ability to define, design, and execute experiments to support process improvements.


• Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) is required.


• Leadership qualities will be required because the candidate will be directing the plant management group on “best practices” in the operation of plant equipment.


• Moderate to advanced knowledge of processing equipment, processing methods, manufacturing philosophies, and basic manufacturing SOPs.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • As a member of the leadership team at the facility, your participation in the continuous improvement process is expected. This includes taking an active role in process improvement initiatives, employee training and upgrading your current skill base.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum: Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering, Engineering, Operations Management, Food Science or equivalent. Preferred: Minimum plus five (5) years of proven Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience.

SCOPE of AUTHORITY:

  • The incumbent will be required to work from a McCain office or facility location and may travel as business needs require (the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces). The incumbent may work a standard work week, but additionally may be called upon to work evenings and/or weekends to accommodate deadlines, unplanned requirements, and/or production shift schedules as requested.
