Job Description



The Professional Driving Instructor is responsible for providing technical instruction and coaching for new drivers during their Driver Internship Program with the purpose of producing qualified drivers. This will also include responsibility for ensuring proper, safe and timely handling of a tractor trailer within North America, both loaded and unloaded.  

 

How You’ll Help

  • Instruct students enrolled in the final practicum phase of their truck driving program and throughout various stages of the Internship Program.
  • Follow course guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Conduct evaluations and provide customized training where required to ensure the best possible learning outcome.
  • Provide meaningful feedback effectively
  • Pre-trip inspection of tractor trailer prior to all trips
  • Accurate and timely maintenance of e-log 
  • Move trailers to and from the dock doors. 
  • Conduct a yard check which includes recording trailer numbers, refer settings, fuel level, trailer contents or seal numbers.
  • Conduct reefer check including unit number, reefer settings and fuel level. 
  • Seal trailers and verify as required.
  • Report any incidents of safety violation or security breaches.
  • May be required to move freight from the back to the front of the trailer using a manual pallet jack.
  • Maintain tractor in a respectable and clean condition.  
  • Other related duties as may be required. 

 

Your Skills & Experience: 

  • Minimum of High School education or GED.
  • Training as a Professional Driving Instructor a strong asset
  • Minimum 5 years of Class 1 driving, verifiable experience including tractor trailer experience
  • Valid Class 1 license
  • Previous training and/or evaluating experience an asset
  • Communication skills – advanced with the ability to relay information and skills in an engaged learning environment
  • Ability to objectively coach students, evaluate skills and provide feedback
  • Demonstrated customer relationship skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Results focused
  • English & French (Written & Spoken), other languages an asset
  • Some travelling required
